What is the Canada Learning Bond (CLB)?
The Canada Learning Bond is money available to children and youth born in 2004 or later from low and moderate income families
You can get up to $2000 from the Government of Canada by opening an Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)
You can access this money when you enroll in full-time or part-time education or training after high school (including trades and apprenticeship programs)
How do I get the Canada Learning Bond?
- Open a no-cost Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) at any financial institution (like a bank or credit union).
- Ask the financial institution to apply for the CLB on your behalf.
Parents/guardians need to:
- file taxes to get the Canada Child Benefit
- have ID to open the bank account
Children and youth need to:
- have a Social Insurance Number
How much money will I get?
$500 for opening the RESP if you are eligible
+ $100 for every year you continue to be eligible (up to the age 15)
= Maximum of $2000 total from the Government of Canada
